Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA) connects engineering design with economic decision-making. It allows engineers to move beyond asking whether a process works technically and begin asking whether it could work commercially. In this introductory webinar, we explore the basic methodology behind TEA and how process information can be converted into economic indicators.


Participants will be introduced to process boundaries, material and energy balances, equipment costs, capital expenditure, operating costs, revenue assumptions, cash-flow modelling, and key profitability metrics. We will also discuss sensitivity analysis and why uncertainty is an essential consideration when evaluating emerging technologies. The webinar is designed for chemical engineers, students, researchers, and professionals interested in process development, sustainability, energy, biotechnology, or industrial investment analysis.

Humzaa Imtiaz holds an MSc in Chemical & Biochemical Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark. His academic work has included process modelling, techno-economic analysis, environmental assessment, and biorefinery research. His master's project investigated a zero-waste biorefinery using Aspen-based process modelling alongside TEA and Life Cycle Assessment, and he later worked as a research assistant on economic assessment of biorefinery systems. He is also the Founder of ChemEnggLife, where he develops educational resources aimed at bridging the gap between chemical engineering theory and practical industry applications.
